Documents for your ferret insurance

Can a ferret be insured in France?

Yes. The ferret is one of the five species covered by the exotic pet ranges available on the French market, alongside the rabbit, the chinchilla, the guinea pig and the parrot.

How much is reimbursed?

Up to 85 % of the veterinary fees actually incurred, within an annual limit of 800 € per ferret, after deduction of a 50 € annual excess.

Up to what age can cover be taken out?

Between 3 months and 2 years of age. This is the shortest window of all the insurable exotic pets, so it is worth dealing with as soon as the animal arrives.

Are vaccinations and castration covered?

A separate prevention allowance of 50 € every two years can be used towards chemical castration. Routine vaccination is handled through that allowance rather than under the illness section.

Is adrenal disease covered?

Yes if it appears after subscription and after the waiting period. No if signs were already present or if the condition had been diagnosed beforehand, as pre-existing conditions are excluded.

What is excluded?

Pre-existing conditions, care given during the waiting period, elective procedures, food and equipment. The general terms and conditions list the exclusions in full.

    FAQ – Ferret Insurance

    Which plan for a ferret?

The exotic pet range does not offer several tiers as it does for dogs and cats : one level applies, at 85 % reimbursement with an 800 € annual limit and a 50 € excess. What really matters is subscribing before the age of 2 and comparing the waiting periods and the prevention allowance.

    Why insure a ferret?

The ferret is prone to costly conditions from middle age onwards : adrenal disease, insulinoma and lymphoma often mean repeated tests, surgery and long-term treatment. As no policy can be taken out after 2 years of age, and as anything already present is excluded, insuring early is the only way to be covered.
