Documents for your cat insurance

How much does cat insurance cost?

Entry-level plans start at around 5 € a month for a young cat. The premium then depends on age, breed, lifestyle and the level of cover chosen. Comparing several insurers on an identical level of cover is what makes the difference.

How much is reimbursed?

From 60 % to 100 % of the veterinary fees, within an annual limit of 1 000 € to 4 000 € depending on the plan, after any excess. Full 100 % reimbursement exists but sits at the top of the range.

Is there always an excess?

No. Excesses run from 0 € to 75 € a year, and several insurers work without one. An apparently cheaper plan with a high excess can end up costing more over a year of regular care.

Are vaccinations and neutering covered?

Through a separate prevention allowance, from 30 € to 200 € a year depending on the plan. It typically covers vaccinations, neutering, worming and flea treatment.

Up to what age can a cat be insured?

From 2 months, and up to 10 or 12 years depending on the insurer. Beyond that no new policy is issued, although an existing policy continues for life as long as premiums are paid.

What is excluded?

Conditions existing before subscription, care during the waiting period, hereditary or congenital conditions in many policies, elective procedures and food, other than therapeutic diets on the top plans. The general terms and conditions list the exclusions in full.

    FAQ – Cat Insurance

    Which plan for a cat?

The right level depends less on price than on your cat’s lifestyle. An indoor cat is mainly exposed to illness, so the annual limit and the reimbursement rate matter most. A cat with outdoor access is also exposed to accidents, which argues for a plan with no excess and a short accident waiting period. Some insurers even market a dedicated indoor plan.

    Why the waiting period matters

The illness waiting period ranges from 7 to 45 days depending on the insurer. Nothing declared during that period is reimbursed, and any condition already present is excluded for good. Subscribing while the cat is young and healthy is what keeps the cover genuinely useful later on.
