Documents for your rabbit insurance

Can a rabbit really be insured in France?

Yes. Along with the ferret, the chinchilla, the guinea pig and the parrot, the rabbit is one of the five species covered by the exotic pet ranges available on the French market.

How much is reimbursed?

Up to 85 % of the veterinary fees actually incurred, within an annual limit of 800 € per rabbit, after deduction of a 50 € annual excess.

Up to what age can cover be taken out?

Between 3 months and 3 years of age. Beyond that, no new policy is accepted : this is the main reason for not waiting.

Are vaccinations covered?

Not under the illness section, but through a separate prevention allowance of 25 € per year, which can be used for the myxomatosis and RHD vaccinations.

What is excluded?

Conditions existing before subscription, anything occurring during the waiting period, husbandry-related problems regarded as avoidable, elective procedures and food. The general terms and conditions list the exclusions in full.

Is identification compulsory?

In practice yes : insurers ask for a tattoo or a microchip number so that the animal treated can be formally identified.

    FAQ – Rabbit Insurance

    Which plan for a rabbit?

The exotic pet range is not built around several tiers as it is for dogs and cats : a single level applies, at 85 % reimbursement with an 800 € annual limit and a 50 € excess. The real work is therefore to check eligibility and to compare the prevention allowance and the waiting periods.

    Why insure a rabbit?

Dental treatment, digestive stasis or an emergency surgical procedure quickly run into several hundred euros, and exotic pet consultations are charged at specialist rates. Cover taken out early, before any condition appears, is the only way to have those costs reimbursed.
